Transforming Louisville’s Roads with

Project Overview


In October 2015, Louisville Metro Government embarked on an innovative road improvement initiative on South Beckley Station Road. Partnering with Hall Paving, they incorporated ACE XP Aramid Fiber into the PG 64-22 asphalt mix, marking a pivotal moment in road durability advancements. This project was among the first to leverage fiber-reinforced asphalt in the city, leading to a lasting impact on resurfacing strategies.


The Challenge

 

Before the introduction of ACE XP, Louisville's roads faced challenges with premature cracking, rutting, and overall deterioration. Traditional asphalt solutions provided short-term fixes but lacked long-term durability, often leading to increased maintenance costs and road disruptions.

By integrating ACE XP Aramid Fiber, Louisville Metro significantly enhanced the structural integrity of South Beckley Station Road. This advanced fiber technology reinforced the asphalt mix, resulting in a more stable pavement with improved resistance to cracking and rutting.

The Results

Fast forward nearly a decade, and the South Beckley Station Road project stands as a testament to the effectiveness of ACE XP. Louisville Metro has since adopted fiber-reinforced asphalt in a majority of its resurfacing projects. The latest Pavement Condition Index (PCI) data from BATT Vision indicates that fiber-reinforced sections
maintain superior durability compared to traditional asphalt, showcasing better long-term performance and cost-efficiency.
